When we arrived at the construction site there’s already comotion. Our Techician Gabriell was mixing concrete and his coworker layed bricks for a protective wall for against the heavy rain. We discussed our fruther day and went to the hopsital administration to say hello and as for a map. Dagobert the accountant (ironic for germans) helped us get one and gave us a tour through all wards and building.

In each ward our small speech in french about waste separation and our project got a little better. To our surprise, all of the doctors we talked to understood the problem quite well, seemed motivated to help and even propossed ideas on how to do it. Gilles, our project partner, said that the hospital has a great reputation in the region, obviously that is to their firendly and up-beat staff as well as their overall excellent organisation and tidyness.

Most of the equipement here is old. We’re talking easily 20-30 years on the X-Ray equipment and operation gear. All well maintained and services. Othe things seem timelessly old, and then there is the laundry. Without washing machines. Two big dudes scrubbing away in massive concrete wash tubs. Excpetions, of course, are the anesthesia machines, the Lab equipment and the accounting computers. They running a tigth and lovely ship around here.

After checking in with Honoré we went to our incinerator. After setting the final size, Gabriel started of with a foundation of refractory cement and a layer of bricks. The bircks are a lot less uniform than we assumed which makes the joints a bit thicker. It is not ideal, since the joints are the possible locations for problems and cracks, but we’ll have to manage. The inner case, which is beeing building right now, will have to withstand about 900°C and constant scratching and rubbing of trash so it needs to be build pretty perfect. Gabriell has that under control, it just takes time. While we finished 5 layers the rest of the crew brouhgt up the walls on the sides by 1,8 meters. Well, we don’t really lay bricks. We are just the little pests that sit around all day looking for errors, mistakes that correct building style and keep it according to plan.

The construction is going according to plan and we are happy with the advancements we are making! The food is good and the view is stunning but it’s cold though
