Goodbye Guido!
Guido – 54 – Operation assisstant – mountaineer – socialist *gets smacked over the head*
Well, we had a lot of fun in out first week here in Techiman. Guido is a witty ex-DDR boy who risked prison and worse to go mountaineering. He decided to follow one of his co-workers to Techiman to help sort through the operation material. And he did. He says he could easily stay for 2 more month. But life in Germany calls. Which is why today during lunch be killed two guineafowl, set three tables and still ran out of chairs.
Many of his co-workers and the high ranking hospital staff were there and in full Ghanaian dresses. I used my smok from last time and Anni decided not to wear hear dress from Agomanya. AFter all this was Guidos night and we didn’t want to draw all the attention;-). We all shared fufu, spaghetti and some wine. Guido recieved a typical shirt from the hospital with the insignia of the institution.
He and Chris gave speeches about the cooperation and the importance of the work, where I could help out a little bit with english translation. It was a very lively crowd.
Around 9 pm the party was over and more or less uniformly everybody left and helped clean up. For us three germans that was quite the unusuall sight, knowing casual evenings that strech far into the morning hours. Cultures are differnt and fun!
We finished of the evening in a small round telling stories from all over the world and thinking about Ghana, the people and what we all should do in the future. It is quite tightly woven…if thats the right word.
Gonna miss him!
Also they took our measurements for something…We’ll see ^^
